ABOUT:
Some information about who I am:
I am Bas de Groot.
I was born in February 1997.
I'm a small indie game developer. Also, I'm autistic and bisexual, and I use he/him pronouns.
I have been playing video games since I was 6 years old. And I've always been a creative person with a wild imagination, so it didn't take long for me to want to design my own levels and concepts. That's what led me to drawing and eventually to making my own video games.
The medium of video games means a lot to me. I love games. As a medium, I think video games are special for their ability to do what more traditional media (like books, TV shows and movies) cannot: make you a part of the story rather than just a passive observer. And I like how games have started to take advantage of that in recent years. Aside from that, I had a rough childhood, I was bullied and discriminated against a lot for being autistic (by adults and other kids alike) and I had an abusive father, and video games were one of the few things in my childhood that I liked. The experiences I had with video games helped me deal with all of that horrible stuff.
I want my games to be the thing that does that for someone else. To share that with someone else.
This site aims to be a collection of my work. I also have a blog, if you're interested in hearing me ramble on about game development, stuff that I like and issues that I care about, such as LBGTQ+ issues, neurodiversity and the flaws inherent in our capitalist system.
And, I have a cat as well, his name's Casper!
